God is the God of the Details

Do you know how easy it is to miss the little things? Sometimes we get so caught up in the big picture that we don’t stop to notice the details.

The other day I realized that I do this with snow all the time, and I bet I’m not alone. I'm sure you can relate if you have ever lived in a place that snows often. We see it piling up on the streets, in our yards, on our cars. For some of us (like me), it’s beautiful and we just hope for more. For others (& sometimes me), we see it as just a headache waiting to be shoveled.

But what if we slowed down and looked at the details? Over the past few weeks, there have been a few things the Lord has shown me about how He cares about the details using the most unexpected thing, snow

Have you ever stepped outside after a fresh snowfall? It’s so quiet and still—like the whole world is holding its breath. Everything looks like it’s been wrapped in a thick, soft blanket. There’s something so peaceful about it, isn’t there?

The details in moments like that remind me of how amazing God is. He cares about the little things. When He created the world, He didn’t just slap it together and call it good. He paid attention to every single detail. And He still does.

Have you ever looked closely at a snowflake? I mean really looked?

There’s nothing else like it.

Last Sunday after church, it was snowing, and as I was getting into the car with two of my kids, we stopped to admire the snowflakes landing on the car—and on us. They were so intricate and detailed, each one completely unique. The kids were amazed, trying to find “the best one” and kept saying “Mom look at this one!” Honestly, I was looking for “the best one” too, which seemed like an impossible task.

We could’ve just hopped in the car and gone about our day, but instead, we stood there in 14-degree weather, soaking in the beauty of God’s creation. It was the perfect chance to remind my kids how incredible God is.

I pointed to the giant snow piles in the parking lot and asked them to guess how many tiny snowflakes it took to make those piles. Their answers ranged from 10 to 100 billion (classic kid logic 🤣).

Then I reminded them that God made every single one of those snowflakes, down to the tiniest detail. And the same God who put that much thought into a snowflake created them—with even more care and love.

I asked, “If God cares this much about the details of a snowflake, don’t you think He cares even more about the details that make you who you are?” After all, we’re made in His image, each of us created with a purpose.

I was reminded that God is so good. He cares about the details—the snowflakes, the stars, and every little thing about you. He’s a God of details and He loves you. I want to encourage you today to look at the details He created around you. I feel like we often miss out on the beauty God created because we don't stop to admire the details.

My prayer for us today:

God, You are the Creator of the universe, You care about every single detail you have created. Thank You! Thank You for caring about each detail, and thank You for caring about us. Thank You for your love, Your grace, and Your mercy that You so generously show us. Thank You for sharing Your creations with us, allowing us to enjoy everything You have given us. Help us to not overlook the details today. Help us to slow down long enough to not only notice the details, but to study them, and to truly admire each one. We love You, LORD. Thank you. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Scripture I was reminded of as I wrote this:

Psalm 139:1-4

“You have searched me, Lord, and You know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; You perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; You are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue, You, Lord, know it completely.”

Psalm 147:4-5

“He determines the number of the stars and calls them each by name. Great is our Lord and mighty in power; His understanding has no limit.”
